Curriculum
Our curriculum provides our pupils with a rich, inclusive learning experience that translates into outstanding outcomes. Pupils experience the full school curriculum that is ambitious, broad and balanced, not limited by the walls of our classrooms. It is enhanced by all aspects of school life through:
-
Assemblies
-
Pupil voice
-
Tutorial
-
Social times
-
Pastoral and wellbeing support
-
Careers advice
-
Enrichment visits and visitors
-
Wide ranging extracurricular provision
Our curriculum is therefore ‘Everything We Do’. The promotion of our school ethos ‘We Excel, We Succeed, We Thrive’ is at the heart of our curriculum. We strive to support pupils to be prepared for each new learning experience and beyond.. We foster a proactive and inclusive approach to all aspects of school life, including in transition and through our curriculum.
Our curriculum has been developed to meet the context and needs of our pupils. Teaching and learning through our curriculum provides all pupils with skills that they need in the future, is progressive and built upon over the four years. Our curriculum is focussed on providing a depth of learning and understanding for every pupil in every subject. The curriculum is logically planned and sequenced to allow knowledge and skills to be built up over time. Teachers have high expectations of all pupils including those with SEND, and we have worked with rigour to ensure the correct support and challenge is in place so that all pupils can learn and feel successful.
The curriculum is underpinned by a deep learning experience, both in and out of the classroom. Across both KS2 and KS3, it is designed to offer pupils a broad range of experiences. The range of learning experiences we offer supports and complements our school ethos and includes both academic, Personal Development and Careers learning. We want our pupils to excel academically, be proud of their uniqueness, proud of their British Values and proud of their diverse society.
Subjects are predominantly taught by subject specialists across KS3. In KS2, Maths, English and specific foundation subjects are taught using a primary model; this provides a stable start to middle school for the pupils building upon their learning and the style of teaching at First and Primary school. We utilise expertise from both primary and secondary specialists working collaboratively to combine best practice from both areas to create a unique learning experience for all of our pupils.
