Residents from Bygate Court came into school on the 15th December to enjoy afternoon tea and festive musical entertainment. A group of pupils from Year 8 planned, prepared and served a selection of delicious finger sandwiches and cakes.
A wonderful performance of ‘Winter Wonderland’ was provided by Year 6 pupils; Chloe Gray, Ruby Smith, Marissa Burton, Jamie McCumiskey and Ava Armstrong. Jamie and Georgia Dawson (Year 6) entertained the guests later on with a performance of ‘When I’m Gone’ which appeared in the film ‘Pitch Perfect’. Frances Bell (Year 8) played a lovely rendition of ‘Let it Be’ by The Beatles on the piano which was complimented perfectly by Daire Treumann’s (Year 8) violin duets on a Christmas theme and beautiful playing of ‘Londonderry Air’. Vocal soloists included Savannah McKenzie, who sung ‘Somewhere only We know’ originally made famous by the group ‘Keane’. Elize Hornby sung a haunting a capella version of ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen and Abbie Taylor (Year 6) sung an engaging performance of ‘On my Own’ from the musical ‘Les Miserables’ as well as a duet with Maya Hudson (Year 6) of ‘Dear Lord, My Lord’. Finally the newly formed orchestra comprising of Chloe Gray, Ava Armstrong, Abbie Taylor, Ruby Smith, Mrs Fitzgerald and Marissa Burton played ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ whilst the guests joined in singing the words. The afternoon’s entertainment finished off with both pupils and guests singing ‘Silent Night’.
The school House Captains greeted our guests on arrival and joined them at their tables for tea and conversation. Residents commented on how friendly and confident the pupils were, stating that they are a credit to the school. They thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and look forward to the next event- an outdoor Summer Garden Party.
